Lee has served as executive director for California's health benefit exchange, Covered California, since its launch in August 2011. In the role, Lee oversees the planning, development, ongoing administration and evaluation of the state's insurance exchange and its efforts to improve the affordability and accessibility of quality healthcare for Californians. The organization has used heavy outreach and marketing to achieve high levels of insurance enrollment. 'California has in essence reached virtually universal coverage,' Lee said in June during the 2017 AHIP Institute and Expo in Austin, Texas. Before his current role, Lee was deputy director at CMS' Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation.
