Matt Bevin,
50
Governor, State of Kentucky
- Compensation: $138,012
- Years on list: 2
Bevin is serving in his first term as governor of Kentucky after being elected in 2015. He has been a critic of the Affordable Care Act and during the campaign called for rolling back the expansion of Medicaid in his state, enacted by his predecessor. In 2013, he ran an unsuccessful bid to unseat Sen. Mitch McConnell. Before entering politics, Bevin became wealthy in the investment business and moved to Louisville in 1999. In 2011, he assumed the presidency of Bevin Bros. Manufacturing Co., which manufactures bells. When Bevin took over, the business, which had been in his family since its founding in 1832, was struggling and on the verge of closure. Bevin restructured the company and restored its profitability.
