Conway is deputy administrator for innovation and quality at the CMS and also serves as director of the agency's Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation. He is responsible for overseeing quality of care and innovation for Medicare, Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program, and the federal insurance marketplace. He is also charged with testing new value-based payment and service delivery models, such as accountable care organizations, bundled payments and primary-care medical homes. This month, Conway announced he was stepping down from his roles at the CMS to become the next CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. He starts Oct. 1.
