Tardive dyskinesia is a chronic, involuntary, and often irreversible movement disorder affecting more than 500,000 people in the U.S. With limited management options to mitigate TD, the disorder has become an accepted consequence of essential mental health treatment. In addition, TD is underdiagnosed for a variety of reasons: patients not recognizing the movements, the complex nature of the disorder, medical-legal concerns, and the lack of an FDA-approved treatment. This means up to 50% of patients in the U.S. are uncoded for TD, even while the use of antipsychotics continues to rise. This campaign aimed to start a conversation between patients, caregivers and doctors about the serious physical and social impact of this often undiagnosed disorder, championing early identification and regular assessment.
