Avera Health's old website had more than 9,000 pages. While similar in look and feel, each of Avera's 30-plus hospitals had a sub-site with its own pages describing medical services. For example, instead of one page about cardiac rehab with the locations listed where you could get this service, there were numerous pages about cardiac rehab, one on each sub-site that offered it. This was repeated for multiple services including prenatal care and delivery, therapy, diagnostic imaging, oncology and so on. This resulted in confusion and frustration among consumers. Avera reduced its number of web pages from 9,000 to a manageable 950. Yet increased consumer friendliness means the site is more helpful than ever before.
