Eric Beck,
35
President and CEO, Evolution Health
Beck heads Evolution Health, the population health management division of for-profit and publicly traded Envision Healthcare, based in Greenwood Village, Colo., where he doubles as the parent company's CEO for integrated delivery.
He's also served as chief innovation officer and chief integration officer at AMR, the company's ambulance services division, as associate chief medical officer for both AMR and Evolution and as medical director for the Chicago Fire Department and Chicago's emergency medical services.
Beck started his healthcare path serving as a paramedic and firefighter.
A native of a Cleveland suburb, Beck became a paramedic in high school, attending night classes at the Cleveland Clinic. In college at John Carroll University, he moonlighted as a paramedic and firefighter with the Willoughby Hills (Ohio) Fire Department. While attending a class, unbeknownst to Beck, a fellow student playing basketball in the gym next door went into cardiac arrest and died. "Had I known, I might have been able to bring him back," Beck said. The incident prompted Beck to establish an on-campus, student-staffed EMT program with Cleveland Clinic physician oversight. The program is still operating today.
Beck's medical directors at the Cleveland Clinic were the first to encourage him to attend medical school. He graduated in 2007 from Ohio Universitys Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens.
His work on population health solutions at Evolution Health, Beck said, "is really at the intersection of public safety, public health and healthcare.
That's what were trying to see across the country, that journey, and how do you align all three of them." —Joseph Conn
