Providence Health and Services
As president and CEO, Dr. Rodney Hochman has made mergers and partnerships a priority for Catholic health system Providence Health & Services. In March, Providence announced its intention to link with St. Joseph Health, based in Irvine, Calif., with Hochman to become president and CEO of the rechristened Providence St. Joseph Health in May, when the deal is expected to close pending final approvals. Hochman in March also led Providence into a deeper dive into personalized medicine. The system announced a partnership with the Institute for Systems Biology, a biomedical research organization based in Seattle that's examining the connection between a patient's genetic makeup and health improvement. The organizations say they will collaborate on cancer research and explore the genetic makeup of cancer survivors. Hochman, 61, was named president and CEO of Providence in February 2013. He was previously president and CEO of Seattle-based Swedish Health Services, which merged with Providence in 2012.
