Richard Gilfillan
President and CEO, Trinity Health
Dr. Richard Gilfillan is credited with being one of the primary architects of the CMS' move to value-based reimbursement models, and he served as the first director of the agency's Innovation Center, where he helped usher in accountable care organizations and bundled payments. Now he is trying to transform Trinity Health into one of the leaders in value-based care delivery. Gilfillan, 66, arrived at Trinity as president and CEO shortly after its 2013 merger with Catholic Health East, which brought together more than 80 hospitals, and set an ambitious plan to launch an ACO in every one of the system's markets while also reducing costs for the parent organization. Trinity has continued to grow under his leadership and now has 90 hospitals in 21 states. It has added hospitals in New York and Connecticut and made investments in new technology such as data and analytics.
