Mark Chassin
President and CEO, Joint Commission
Dr. Mark Chassin has served as president and CEO of the Joint Commission since 2007. The organization puts its stamp on quality and patient-safety performance for healthcare organizations around the country. In addition, Chassin serves as president of the Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare, which was formed in 2009 and works with hospitals and health systems to solve critical safety and quality problems such as healthcare-associated infections, wrong-site surgery and surgical-site infections. Before joining the Joint Commission, Chassin was the Edmond A. Guggenheim professor of health policy and founding chairman of the health policy department at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and executive vice president for excellence in patient care at Mount Sinai Medical Center. While at the medical center, Chassin constructed a nationally recognized quality-improvement program. Chassin also previously served as commissioner of the New York State Department of Health.
