President Barack Obama had some straight talk for Sister Carol. It was at a Washington gathering in June 2015 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Catholic Health Association's founding. "I don't know whether this is appropriate, but I just told Sister Carol I love her," he said at the start of his speech at the event, adding, "We would not have gotten the Affordable Care Act done had it not been for her." Indeed, Keehan is given much credit for helping to get the ACA through Congress by helping to forge agreement over accommodations on issues involving abortions and contraception coverage and religious freedom. Keehan has been CEO of the CHA since 2005.
