Faulkner was right out of the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a master's degree in computer science when she founded Human Services Computing in 1979, a company that would morph into Epic Systems. Over the decades, she has grown the company into one of the consistently most popular vendors of electronic health record systems. Epic reported revenue of $2.02 billion in 2015 and claims 385 healthcare organizations as customers, according to a company fact sheet. This year she holds the No. 3 spot on the Forbes list of America's Richest Self-made Women, pegging the healthcare IT entrepreneur's net worth at $2.4 billion.
