When Swedish took the corner office at Anthem in 2013, the health insurer was far from being on stable ground. Its stock price was depressed, which partially led to the ouster of CEO Angela Braly. Swedish, the former CEO of Catholic hospital system Trinity Health, has helped double Anthem''s stock price and has vowed to fight the U.S. Justice Department's opposition to its acquisition of Cigna Corp., the largest potential insurer deal in U.S. history. His influence will grow in 2017 as the board chair of America's Health Insurance Plans, the industry's primary lobbying group.
