100 Most Influential People in Healthcare – 2016
Rank 93
Ronald DePinho,
61
President, MD Anderson Cancer Center
- Years on list: 2
He is only the fifth president of MD Anderson Cancer Center since its inception in 1941. In his nearly five years leading the $4.4 billion institution, DePinho has kept his eye on the changing face of healthcare, with a pilot program in bundled payments with UnitedHealthcare. He has also found ways to fund research despite the National Institute of Health's dwindling budget. Before joining the cancer research giant, DePinho had co-founded a number of biotechnology and cancer companies and spent 14 years on Harvard Medical School's faculty.
