Heading one of the largest healthcare grant-making foundations since 2003, Lavizzo-Mourey has focused on encouraging a "culture of health" throughout the country, and she has pushed for others to join the cause. The foundation forged unconventional partnerships with groups such as the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco to encourage healthy communities, eliminate childhood obesity and transform the healthcare system. The foundation continues to dole out more than $400 million in grants every year. A geriatrician by trade, Lavizzo-Mourey has also served on a number of federal advisory committees on aging, disease and the economics of the healthcare system.
