Up until this month, DeSalvo had been serving double duty at the HHS'as the nation's top information technology official and also as acting assistant secretary for health. She assumed the latter role in fall 2014 to join the team leading the response to the Ebola crisis in the U.S. DeSalvo has now stepped down as national coordinator for health IT, a role she had held since December 2013. She came to the role with deep roots in public health, including a stint as health commissioner for the city of New Orleans.
