Sachin Jain,
35
Chief Medical Officer, CareMore Health
When Dr. Sachin Jain began his undergraduate studies at Harvard University, he knew healthcare policy was his passion. But he never expected to collaborate with some of the most influential healthcare policymakers in the country.
Jain, in previous federal agency roles, has worked alongside a cadre of healthcare leaders, including Dr. Don Berwick when he was the administrator of the CMS, and Dr. David Blumenthal when he led the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. Jain is now the chief medical officer at CareMore, a California medical group and Medicare insurer owned by Anthem.
Aspirations: Possibly to return to a federal healthcare agency.
Role model: My dad, who was a pain-management physician.
Leadership philosophy: Passion is contagious.
Blumenthal said Jain was "quick to make friends and inspire confidence," a sentiment shared by CareMore CEO Leeba Lessin. At one of his first CareMore all-team meetings, Jain, an active social-media user, encouraged his colleagues to sign up for Twitter.
"But rather than just theoretically saying everyone should be on Twitter, he had everyone pull out their phones and get on Twitter," Lessin said.
Jain has led CareMore's push to help high-risk seniors, along with other clinical programs. And he wants CareMore's successes to be replicated.
"The country needs examples of how it can deliver healthcare better," Jain said. "I hope I can work with others to parade examples that can be inspirational for wider-scale change."--Bob Herman
