Tejal Gandhi,

President/CEO, National Patient Safety Foundation
As president and CEO of the National Patient Safety Foundation, Gandhi focuses on the use of information systems to reduce medical mistakes and on the implementation of patient-safety programs in healthcare settings. Gandhi, 46, is a board-certified internist and associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. Though proud of how far the patient-safety field has come, she says there remains much work to be done in creating an atmosphere where patients are free from harm. Patient and workforce safety should be dual priorities among U.S. healthcare leaders and policymakers, she said.
