Wheeler, 56, took over as CEO of Allina Health on Jan. 1. She was named president in 2013 and had served as chief clinical officer since 2006. Allina owns 12 hospitals and manages another. Wheeler was not only born at the system's largest hospital, Abbott Northwestern, she practiced there for 20 years as an OB-GYN. Allina was recently named one of the 15 Top Health Systems by Truven Health Analytics. Wheeler said Allina's integrated data system helped earn that recognition. Information is collected from more than 30 sources using Allina's electronic health-record system and is used to evaluate patient outcomes, patient experience and cost.
