Mark Chassin
President and CEO, Joint Commission
Dr. Mark Chassin is president and CEO of the Joint Commission, which accredits and certifies more than 20,500 healthcare organizations and programs nationwide. It's the nation's leading hospital accreditation body, though some have criticized its "Top Performers" designations in recent years, saying the recognition doesn't focus enough on clinical outcomes. Chassin, 68, is also president of the Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare, which works with hospitals and health systems on safety and quality issues. Before leading the Joint Commission, Chassin was the Edmond A. Guggenheim Professor of Health Policy and founding Chairman of the Department of Health Policy at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He also served as commissioner of the New York State Department of Health.
