Dr. Daniel Saltzman, pediatric surgeon and cancer researcher at the University of Minnesota, is developing a promising new cancer therapy that uses altered salmonella to deliver cancer-fighting drugs to tumors--without toxic side effects. To advance the research to human trials, Saltzman needed to raise $500,000 in bridge funding. The "Sneak Attack on Cancer" campaign focused on Project Stealth, an edgy brand and grass-roots crowd-funding campaign that upended the stodgy, impersonal image of clinical research.
