Nasal strips made headlines in the spring of 2014 when the thoroughbred California Chrome was about to race in the final leg of horse-racing's Triple Crown. "Performance enhancing" nasal strips made national news when the horse's owners threatened to pull California Chrome from the Belmont Stakes if he wasn't allowed to wear his usual equine nasal strip. In a campaign titled "Breathe Right--The Bedtime Stakes," the makers of Breathe Right used the headlines as a peg to promote the health benefits of nasal strips for humans.
