Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health announced the executive team that will lead their combined organization known as CommonSpirit Health.
The executive leadership team will include Paul Edgett, chief business lines officer; Charles Francis, chief strategy and transformation officer; Thomas Kopfensteiner, chief mission officer; Mitch Melfi, chief legal officer; Daniel Morissette, chief financial officer; Marvin O'Quinn, president and chief operating officer; Darryl Robinson, chief human resources officer; Kathleen Sanford, chief nursing officer; Elizabeth Shih, chief administrative officer (supporting future co-CEO Lloyd Dean and current Dignity president and CEO); Bruce Swartz, senior vice president of physician enterprise; Patricia Webb, chief administrative officer (supporting future co-CEO Kevin Lofton and current CHI CEO); Dr. Robert Wiebe, chief medical officer; and Deanna Wise, chief information officer.
The California Justice Department conditionally approved the merger Nov. 21, which means the deal has met all necessary state, federal and Catholic regulatory approvals. It is on track to close by Dec. 31 to create a Chicago-based not-for-profit system with 140 hospitals, 150,000 employees and more than 700 care sites across 21 states, including 30 hospitals in California.
Dean and Lofton will split management duties. Dean will have authority over all of operations and all the clinical, financial and human resources. Lofton will oversee advocacy, compliance, digital, information technology, international business, legal services, philanthropy, mission, sponsorship and governance, and system partnerships.
