Dr. Michael Wagner has been named interim CEO of Burlington, Mass-based Wellforce, replacing Norm Deschene, who will retire at the end of the year.
Deschene has been with the health system since it was founded in 2014. Wellforce was formed by Tufts Medical Center and Circle Health along with physicians from the New England Quality Care Alliance and the Lowell General Physician Hospital Organization.
Wagner is currently the chief physician executive of Wellforce and will be stay at the helm until the board finds a replacement. The partner organizations have now grown to include MelroseWakefield Healthcare and Home Health Foundation.
The stakeholders maintain their local governance and work together to provide care to Massachusetts residents. Deschene is a seasoned heatlhcare executive with 30 years in the industry. Wagner was president and CEO of Tufts Medical Center prior to joining Wellforce earlier this year. He began his career as a primary care physician at Tufts in 1990. Throughout his career, Wagner has served in various leadership roles including CEO of EmCare Inpatient Services, a hospital inpatient physician management company, and chief medical officer of Tufts.
