It's been a wild ride. While the industry has moved on from last year's debate over repealing the Affordable Care Act, there's been no shortage of drama. “Disruption” has become the word of the year and our 17th annual ranking of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare aims to reflect the changes that are taking hold across the industry.
Even though the ACA repeal failed, President Donald Trump has used his bully pulpit and executive power to dramatically reshape the landscape, earning him the top spot in our ranking.
But we also wanted to spotlight how the industry is disrupting itself and thus the sizable tie for our No. 2 position. These executives—some of whom have disrupted other industries—aren't standing pat and letting change come to them, rather they are forcing the industry to take a long hard look in the mirror.
The list is a reflection of nominations from the industry and editorial research.
