SSM Health Medical Group has named a new president, Dr. Dang "Don" Tran. He will assume the role on June 11.
Tran is a family medicine physician who most recently served as vice president of medical practice for Minneapolis-based Fairview Health Services, a not-for-profit academic health system.
As president of the group, Tran will oversee growth and management of the St. Louis-based system's physician practices and the medical group's retail and urgent-care clinics, according to a news release. He will also partner with SSM Health's leadership on telemedicine and value-based care programs.
At Fairview, Tran led telemedicine pilot programs and worked to bring down unnecessary emergency department use. He is the principal investigator of a multi-center randomized controlled trial on personalized, genetically guided hypertension management.
Candace Jennings, SSM Health's regional president of operations, said in a statement that Tran's background makes him a "natural fit" for the role.
"He brings a wealth of experience to SSM Health in areas such as quality, telemedicine, physician recruitment and growth strategies," she said, "and we are excited to see his influence in similar programs in our medical group practices."
