Insurance reporter Shelby Livingston, art director Pat Fanelli and digital graphics producer Fan Fei were honored with the best single article award for their April 2017 story, "Access Denied," on insurers' role in access to addiction treatment. With the death toll rising from opioid addiction, Livingston's reporting revealed that "opioid addiction isn't treated with urgency like other chronic and deadly diseases."
This is the second consecutive award for Fanelli and Fei, who won last year for best infographics.
Senior reporter Harris Meyer won the best news coverage award for his body of work reporting on congressional efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. Meyer's reporting went beyond the day-to-day drama unfolding in Washington, D.C., and provided readers with insightful analysis on the real-world impact of proposed policy changes.
