Tom Lindquist, a former Molina Healthcare executive, has been named CEO of Allina Health/Aetna, the joint venture plan that the two organizations announced last year.
Lindquist previously served as president of Molina's South Carolina plan. While there, he developed programs "to improve health outcomes for people who qualified for government-sponsored programs," according to a news release. Lindquist also was president of home healthcare provider AccentCare in Texas and held leadership positions at UnitedHealthcare in Minnesota, Texas and Louisiana and at the Ochsner Health Plan.
"After a comprehensive search process, we believe we have found the best individual to assume leadership of Allina Health/Aetna," said Dan Finke, senior vice president of clinical services and joint venture markets for Aetna. "Tom has the right tool set and experience in the health insurance industry to guide the company to success in the years to come."
Thirteen-hospital Allina Health System, the market leader in the Twin Cities, and Aetna, one of the nation's largest insurers, will sell health insurance products in Minnesota and plans to target Medicare Advantage and other lines that could benefit from Allina's provider network and population management expertise. The goal is also to leverage data by both separate entities to better coordinate care and cut costs.
Lindquist's immediate priorities, according to a news release by the joint venture, will be finalizing product offerings and launching an integrated digital portal experience. He'll look to grow the company geographically over the long-term.
Commercial products could be sold as early as April 1.
Aetna also has a similar joint ventures with Banner Health, Texas Health Resources and Inova Health System.
