Dr. David Bailey, president and CEO of the Nemours Children's Health System, will retire this year, the Jacksonville, Fla.-based system announced Tuesday.
During Bailey's 21-year tenure at Nemours, 13 of which were spent as president and CEO, the health system's revenue increased from $533 million to $1.4 billion. Nemours also grew from 15 locations to more than 80 throughout six states. Bailey will help the organization search for his successor and will lead the system until one is found.
"Everything that he has done at Nemours is based on ensuring that we put the child first at all times, that we attract and retain talented physicians and associates to provide the highest quality care and that the organization is appropriately positioned to successfully deliver on its mission for the future," Brian Anderson, Nemours' board chair, said in a statement.
Nemours is an integrated health system known for its pediatric care at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Del., and Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando, Fla., along with its outpatient facilities, where it delivers pediatric primary, specialty and urgent care.
Bailey, a pediatric gastroenterologist, previously served as chief operating officer at Nemours. Bailey was on Modern Healthcare's list of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare in 2015.
