Who: Dr. Peter Pisters
New role: President of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center based in Houston. Pisters was the sole finalist in the search for a new leader. He will succeed Dr. Ronald DePinho, who resigned in March after nearly six years at the helm.
Background: Pisters, a native of Canada, is currently president and CEO of University Health Network in Toronto, which houses the largest hospital-based research program in Canada.
Previous work at MD Anderson: Pisters returns to the academic center after a three-year absence. He had a 20-year career with the organization from 1994 to 2014, holding several leadership roles including medical director of MD Anderson's six regional cancer centers. He also previously worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
