Who: Dr. Guy Hudson, 48
New role: CEO of Swedish Health Services, based in Seattle.
Background: Hudson has served as interim CEO since February after the resignation of Anthony Armada. Before taking the helm, Hudson was chief of physician services for western Washington at Swedish. He has been with the five-campus system for 10 years as a pediatric urological surgeon.
Taking over amid controversy: Hudson took over at Swedish shortly after it was the subject of a Seattle Times report that accused the system of encouraging neurosurgeons to increase patient volume and perform unnecessary and invasive surgeries. The report led to the resignation of Armada, who decided stepping down was "in the best interest of the organization," according to a news release.
Focus on patients: "I will ensure that Swedish remains a patient-centered organization that makes the right decisions for our patients and community," Hudson said in a statement.
