Larry Shackelford has been promoted to CEO of Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark., effective Sept. 1. He succeeds William Bradley, who is retiring.
Shackelford has served since 2010 as senior VP of strategy and outreach services at Washington Regional. He previously was CEO of Medical Associates of Northwest Arkansas, a large independent physician group based in Fayetteville.
Asmar
Dr. Hoda Asmar has been named senior VP and chief clinical officer of Adventist Health based in Roseville, Calif. In this new role, Asmar will be responsible for initiatives focused on maximizing the efficiency of clinical operations and improving patient services.
Asmar was previously chief medical officer of Baptist Memorial Health Care in Memphis, Tenn. She was also previously CMO at several other organizations including Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, and Edward Health Services in Naperville, Ill.
Dr. Suzanne Labriola has been named chief medical officer of Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights, Pa. The facility is part of Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network. She replaces Dr. Margaret Meals, who retired.
Labriola, 39, was most recently a hospitalist at several Allegheny Health hospitals.
Dr. Robert Bernasek has been named chief medical officer of Southeast Georgia Health System, based in Brunswick.
In the new role, Bernasek will oversee clinical operations at the two-hospital system.
Bernasek most recently served as chief medical officer at Hilton Head (S.C.) Hospital. Previously he was VP of medical affairs at New York-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital Center, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., and chief quality officer at White Plains (N.Y.) Hospital.
Kapaska
Dr. Dave Kapaska is retiring as president and CEO of Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center, Sioux Falls, S.D., effective June 30. He will be succeeded by David Flicek, currently chief administrative officer of Avera Medical Group. Flicek will remain in that role.
Kapaska, 68, has served as president and CEO since October 2010. During his tenure, Kapaska helped steer growth at Avera including new clinics and programs. He also consolidated all six Avera cancer centers into the Avera Cancer Institute.
Before taking the top job, Kapaska was Avera's chief medical officer and senior VP of medical affairs.
Mark Davis has been named VP of Eastern operations for Life Care Centers of America, a national healthcare company based in Cleveland, Tenn. He will oversee 133 skilled-nursing and rehab facilities in more than 15 states.
Davis has more than 35 years of healthcare executive experience, including oversight of Tennessee Health Management's skilled-nursing and behavioral health facilities, home health/hospice settings and its home medical equipment business.
