Who: Michael Wiechart
New role: COO of physician staffing giant TeamHealth based in Knoxville, Tenn., effective May 1. He succeeds Oliver Rogers, who is retiring. TeamHealth is affiliated with about 20,000 physicians, offering outsourced healthcare services to about 3,330 acute-care and post-acute facilities and physician groups nationwide.
Background: Wiechart was previously COO of RCCH HealthCare Partners, an 18-hospital chain based in Brentwood, Tenn., that was formed last year through the $550 million merger of RegionalCare Hospital Partners with Capella Healthcare. He stepped down from the COO position in September 2016, about four months after the merger was complete. Before the merger with RegionalCare, Wiechart helped grow Capella to a 10-hospital system in his role as CEO.
Changes at TeamHealth: Wiechart joins TeamHealth as it continues to adapt from its recent acquisition by private equity firm Blackstone Group in November 2016 for $6.1 billion. TeamHealth said the purchase allows it to take steps to heal financially outside the pressure of public equity markets.
