Modern Healthcare congratulates longtime reporter Joseph Conn on his retirement at the end of this month, capping a nearly 38-year career in journalism.
Joe has been Modern Healthcare's information technology writer for the past 13 years, also covering privacy and security issues, among others. He's been the one our readers could rely on to help them distill the complexities of interoperability, application programming interfaces and HIPAA—and understand the acronyms involved in the health IT space.
He was also ahead of the curve in explaining the critical role of electronic health records, now ubiquitous in healthcare organizations, and was deeply knowledgeable about the trailblazing role of the Veterans Affairs Department's EHR system, which was developed in-house decades ago.
Before joining Modern Healthcare, Joe served for more than two years as editor of Modern Physician, a Modern Healthcare sister publication that focused on the business side of medical practice and issues facing physician-executives.
Joe also worked for nearly 20 years at the Gary (Ind.) Post-Tribune, covering a number of beats including local government, labor relations and the Northwest Indiana steel industry.
Thank you, Joe, for the years of service and dedication to your craft and always keeping the reader in mind.
