Henry Schein has hired Bridget Ross, a longtime Johnson & Johnson executive, to lead its growing medical segment.
Ross, 52, comes to the Melville, N.Y.-based healthcare distributor after more than 28 years in various roles at Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiaries. Her appointment is effective February 14.
Most recently, Ross served as vice president of commercial operations for J&J's medical devices group in North America. Before that, she was global president of Acclarent, a J&J company that makes ear, nose, and throat devices. She also served as global president of women's health & urology for Ethicon, which makes vessel searing devices, trocars and other products.
Henry Schein's medical segment is relatively small compared to its mainstay dental business, representing roughly 20% of the company's business. But the medical segment often shows strong results even when Schein's medical and dental segments decline. Much of the segment's growth came from the 2014 acquisition of Cardinal Health's physician office distribution business, and Schein has benefited as health systems expand their outpatient and ambulatory footprints.
"The company is committed to embracing change as markets evolve, making this an especially momentous time to add to the continued success of Henry Schein,” Ross said. “I look forward to playing my part in advancing the work of this great company."
Ross will report to Karen Prange, executive vice president and CEO of Schein's global animal health, medical and dental surgical group.
