Piedmont Healthcare, a seven-hospital system in Atlanta, has signed a new four-year contract with Humana across all its products, including Medicare Advantage, the two companies announced Thursday.
The deal starts March 1. It provides in-network access to Humana members at all Piedmont facilities, including to Piedmont's 1,600 physicians in the Piedmont Clinic.
In the agreement, the sides expanded the emphasis of value-based, ensuring the care patients receive is focused on improved outcomes and overall better health, the companies said.
“Not only will they (patients) be able to maintain their relationships with the Piedmont physicians they know and trust, they can rest assured knowing they have access to high-quality care close to home,” said Piedmont CEO Kevin Brown.
New to the Humana contract are two hospitals that Piedmont has added in recent months, Piedmont Newton in Newton, Ga., and Piedmont Athens Regional in the hometown of the University of Georgia.
Also in recent months, Piedmont has cemented new contracts with a number of other insurers, including United HealthCare, Aetna, Kaiser Permanente and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, said Piedmont spokesman Max Davis.
Piedmont expects to post revenue of more than $2 billion in 2016.
It is one of four large systems in a fast-growing Atlanta market that has seen rapid consolidation among hospitals. The other major players are WellStar Health System of Marietta, Ga., Emory Healthcare and Northside Hospital.
