Who: Rev. Dennis Holtschneider, 55
New role: Executive VP and COO of St. Louis-based Ascension, effective July 1. In this newly created position, Holtschneider will oversee the Ascension Solutions Division, subsidiaries of Ascension Information Services and the Ascension Ministry Service Center, as well as the system's national strategy and advocacy functions.
Background: Since July 2004, Holtschneider has been president of DePaul University, a Catholic university based in Chicago. He oversees a budget of $566 million and 931 full-time faculty across four campuses. He is also a professor of education at the university. Before joining DePaul, Holtschneider was executive VP and COO from 2000 to 2004 at his alma mater, Niagara University in Niagara Falls, N.Y. He also has led two national studies examining trends in governance among Catholic universities and has authored a book on the subject of higher education.
History with Ascension: Holtschneider currently serves as board chairman of the nation's largest not-for-profit health system. He joined the board of Ascension Health in 2009 and became part of the Ascension board in 2012 as chair of the audit committee.
