Start-up insurer Oscar has collaborated with Mount Sinai to open its first members clinic.
The health center in Brooklyn will initially be staffed by a primary-care physician, a nurse practitioner, a behavioral health specialist and a medical assistant.
By delivering healthcare directly to the consumer, Oscar hopes to improve its members' experience and forge tighter relationships with the providers in its network, said Oscar CEO Mario Schlosser. At the same time, the approach could lower medical costs that have contributed to the insurer's financial losses.
The clinic will also connect Mount Sinai to a new source of patients, which could lead to referrals to the system's specialists.
