Chocoholics grasp onto any wisp of news that their obsession might actually be good for them. Scientific studies have delved into whether chocolate is good for your heart, your mood or your metabolism, delivering varying degrees of balm to chocolate devotees.
But now a Swiss chocolatier is forgoing any research and declaring that his Frauenmond bars will help women with their monthly menstrual cramps, according to the U.K.'s Independent .
Pastry chef Marc Widmer's says his concoction contains 17 Swiss herbs that help alleviate period pain. He describes his creation as: “Reassuring. Harmonizing. And at the same time very delicious.”
“We want to make the menstruation days of women more comfortable,” Widmer told the Swiss newspaper 20 Minuten.
For now, Widmer's company, Chocolate with Love, seems to be aimed only at the European market, since its website is in German. It's not a cheap indulgence: about 3.5 ounces of the chocolate sells for the equivalent of about $12.50, although delivery is free if you happen to be in Switzerland.
Another marketer active in the U.S., Ricola, is already famous for hawking the magic of Swiss herbs in its cough drops. Perhaps some merger could be entertained. Mmmmmm. Chocolate cough drops.
