Dale Maxwell will become interim CEO at Albuquerque-based Presbyterian Healthcare Services when current president and CEO James Hinton leaves to become chief executive at Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health in January 2017.
Maxwell, 51, is executive VP and chief administrative officer at Presbyterian. He joined the system in 2000 and has held a number of leadership roles, including CFO.
White
Linda White will retire as president and CEO of Evansville, Ind.-based Deaconess Health System effective next June after 15 years in the roles. Shawn McCoy, the system's executive VP and chief administrative officer, will become CEO. Dr. James Porter, the system's executive VP of physician enterprise and CMO, will become president.
White's previous leadership roles within the system include VP of nursing, VP of patient care and COO. She also served as president of Deaconess Hospital.
Herbert Fritch, who founded the company that would become Cigna-HealthSpring and grew it into one of the nation's largest Medicare Advantage plans, will retire as president effective Nov. 11. M. Shawn Morris, COO of Cigna-HealthSpring, the Cigna unit offering Medicare Advantage and Part D plans, will become interim president.
Fritch founded Nashville-based HealthSpring in 2000. In 2012, Cigna, acquired HealthSpring. The $3.8 billion deal marked a major Cigna expansion into senior and Medicare service lines. Fritch was chairman and CEO of HealthSpring before the merger.
Ward
Scot Ward has been named executive VP and chief administrative officer at Corizon Health, one of the largest providers of correctional healthcare services in the U.S.
In the newly created role, Ward, 45, will oversee IT, analytics and contract departments at the Brentwood, Tenn.-based company. He most recently was an executive adviser with private equity firm Beecken Petty O'Keefe & Co. Previously he served as senior VP of business intelligence and interim CIO at Nashville-based naviHealth, a provider of post-acute care management services.
Joe Walsh has been named executive VP of operations at Pensiamo, the new UPMC-IBM Corp. venture formed in July that will help hospitals manage supply-chain operations with assistance from the IBM Watson cognitive computing system. He will start Nov. 7.
Walsh, 42, VP and chief purchasing officer at Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare, has been with the system, a leader in supply chain management, since 2008.
Pensiamo is majority-owned by UPMC, with IBM owning about 10%. The venture marks Watson Health's first foray into the healthcare supply chain, and it's the first time that Watson will connect clinical and operational insights.
