Pittsburgh-based UPMC health system announced Tuesday that it has completed its acquisition of Susquehanna Health, a four-hospital system based in north central Pennsylvania.
The systems signed a letter of intent in May. Susquehanna Health has been renamed UPMC Susquehanna to reflect its new partner.
Under terms of the deal, UPMC will invest $500 million to expand Susquehanna's emergency, cardiac and cancer service lines, according to a news release. Other services will follow.
Other investments at Susquehanna include establishing a neurosciences center and replacing an inpatient rehabilitation facility.
“Through this affiliation, we are able to bring a new level of innovation and advanced care to our region,” said Steven Johnson, president of Susquehanna.
Eight UPMC board members will be appointed to Susquehanna's current 16-member board comprised of volunteers who represent the community and businesses.
In May, not-for-profit UPMC also merged with Jameson Health System in New Castle, Pa. UPMC agreed to invest $75 million to develop services and facilities in the county.
UPMC reported $12.8 billion in total revenue this year, up by 5.8% from 2015.
