Who: Steve Tucker, 61
New role: CEO of Conemaugh Health System based in Johnstown, Pa., part of Duke LifePoint. He replaces Scott Becker, who is retiring after 11 years in the top job.
Previous role: CEO of Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, the system's flagship facility for 19 years. He was also CEO of the hospital division, where he led administrative duties for all four of the system's hospitals. Tucker has been at Conemaugh for 31 years.
Strength through partnership: The system was acquired by Duke LifePoint in 2014. The deal was made to prepare Conemaugh “for the future and to ensure its long-term sustainability,” Tucker said. With support from Duke LifePoint, Conemaugh is installing a new electronic health record system and has begun plans to build two comprehensive outpatient centers.
Community approach: Population health initiatives are underway at Conemaugh, Tucker said. The system is looking to partner with community organizations and independent physicians across four Pennsylvania counties to remain competitive in the evolving value-based reimbursement climate. “Making our communities healthier would be one of the major focuses of viability and really creating a place patients want to come and choose to come.”
