Who: Tim Hingtgen, 48
New role: President and COO of Community Health Systems, effective Sept.1. He replaces David Miller, who is retiring from the system after 20 years. Miller will act as a special adviser to CEO Wayne Smith until year-end.
Previous role: Has served as executive VP of operations for CHS since May. He joined the Franklin, Tenn.-based system in 2008 as VP of operations. He was promoted to president of Division IV operations in July 2014, overseeing hospitals in Western states including Alaska, California, New Mexico and Washington.
Looking toward expansion: A main focus for Hingtgen will be “redeploying the resources to the networks and regional markets we are developing, and continuing the growth and vibrancy of those networks.” He said this will include capital investment and corporate support. CHS operates 159 hospitals in 20 states.
Success through teamwork: CHS has many division presidents who manage multiple facilities in specific regions. Hingtgen said his role is to collaborate with them, providing the “corporate resources necessary to make all of them successful” in their local markets.
