Lefton named COO of Einstein Medical Center

Ruth Lefton has been appointed COO of Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia. She replaces Susan Bernini, who retired after 46 years with Einstein Healthcare Network.

Lefton, 54, has been with Einstein Healthcare Network for more than 20 years. She was previously COO for 14 years of MossRehab, a rehabilitation hospital based in Elkins Park, Pa., Einstein Medical Center Elkins Park, and Willowcrest, a skilled-nursing and rehabilitation facility. She also was assistant VP of MossRehab.

Matthew Bailey has been promoted to president of the Indiana University Health's South Central Region, which includes four hospitals, effective Nov. 1. He will also be president of IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He replaces Mark Moore, 64, who has retired after 14 years at the helm of the region.

Bailey, 56, was most recently COO of IU Health's South Central Region, a role he held since last October. He also was president of IU Health West Hospital in Avon, Ind., for six years. Before joining IU Health, Bailey was president and CEO of Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind.

Dr. John Hitt has been named chief medical officer at Maricopa Integrated Health System in Phoenix. He replaces Dr. Robert Fromm.

Hitt, 59, has served for the past six years as CMO at Hennepin Health System, a safety net provider in Minneapolis. Previous roles include CMO for Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., and working for UnitedHealth Group's Optum division to develop a model to better manage Medicare Advantage populations.

John O'Malley has been named president of St. Joseph Mercy Livingston in Howell, Mich., effective Sept. 12.

In the newly created role, O'Malley, 57, will lead day-to-day operations at the hospital and at St. Joseph Mercy Brighton (Mich.), a health center. He will report to Dave Brooks, president of St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor and Livingston hospitals.

Previously, O'Malley was a regional VP for Select Medical Corp. and CEO of Select Specialty Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Roland Cruickshank has been named president of the Vintage Hospital in Houston, effective Sept. 12. The facility is part of CHI St. Luke's Health, also in Houston. He succeeds Norman Stephens, who will retire Sept. 2 after nearly 40 years in the healthcare industry.

Cruickshank most recently served as VP of operations at Houston Methodist Texas Medical Center.

Dr. George Daley, a pioneer stem cell researcher, has been named dean of Harvard Medical School, effective Jan. 1, 2017. He replaces Dr. Jeffrey Flier, who left July 31 after nine years at the post.

Dr. Barbara McNeil, professor of healthcare policy and radiology at Harvard, is currently serving as acting dean.

Daley is a professor of biological chemistry and molecular pharmacology at Harvard. He also is the director of the Stem Cell Transplant Center at Boston Children's Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
