Who: Andrei Soran
New role: CEO of Verity Health System, formerly the Daughters of Charity. He replaces Mitchell Creem, who assumed the role of chief administrative officer for the six-hospital system based in Redwood City, Calif.
Former positions: COO of Verity for about three months. Previously, Soran was COO of Detroit Medical Center, part of Tenet Healthcare Corp. B. Joseph Badalian will replace Soran as COO, effective Sept. 1. He was most recently CEO of Fountain Valley (Calif.) Regional Hospital & Medical Center, also a Tenet facility.
Background: Daughters of Charity took the new name in December 2015 when private equity firm Blue Mountain Capital Management committed $100 million to the cash-strapped system.
Emphasizing access: “What we need to do is ensure that as many people as possible have a primary-care physician,” Soran said. He is interested in partnering with physician associations and other organizations so more people have access to care.
A healthy bottom line: The system is in the midst of improving its financial viability. Soran said he plans to “regain confidence of medical staff, deploy capital and improve operations,” noting he will focus on productivity and revenue cycle to improve finances.
