Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives has appointed Dr. Robert Weil senior VP and chief medical officer of the 18-state health system.
He replaces Dr. Stephen Moore, who left the position to be CMO at CHI St. Luke's Health in Houston in 2015.
Most recently, Weil was chief medical executive, associate chief scientific officer of clinical and translational research and medical director of care support systems at Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania. He focused on implementing new service lines and expanding critical-care services throughout northeast Pennsylvania.
In his new role, Weil, 55, will work with Kathy Sanford, CHI's senior VP and chief nursing officer, on quality and safety delivery at the 103-hospital system.
A trained neurosurgeon, Weil was a physician at the Cleveland Clinic prior to joining Geisinger. He was also president of Cleveland Clinic Lakewood (Ohio) Hospital.
CHI is one of the nation's largest not-for-profit health systems. The chain reported $15.2 billion in operating revenue in 2015.
