Virginia Mason system names Shannon senior VP, and other newsmakers

Kerry Shannon has been named senior VP of strategy and business development at the Virginia Mason Health System in Seattle.

In the newly created role, Shannon will develop business strategies for the system. She spent the past 18 months at Virginia Mason as a consultant evaluating strategic opportunities.

Shannon, 55, previously was managing director of healthcare strategic solutions at Navigant Consulting. Throughout her 30-year career in management consulting, she has held positions at Computer Sciences Corp., Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Patrick Gavin has been promoted to CEO of Crozer-Keystone Health, a hospital system based in Springfield, Pa.

Gavin, 52, replaces Joan Richards, who is retiring after 34 years with the system. She was CEO for the past nine years. She held various other leadership positions at Crozer, including president, COO and VP of patient services.

Gavin joined Crozer-Keystone in 2010 as president of Crozer-Chester Medical Center. He was promoted to COO and executive VP of the system in 2012. He also led Crozer-Keystone Health Network, the system's physician network.

Earlier this month, Crozer-Keystone was converted to a for-profit system after it was acquired by Prospect Medical Holdings.

Dr. Michael Jaff has been named president of Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, Mass., effective this fall. He replaces Ellen Moloney, who served as interim president since December 2015. She will resume her role as COO. Newton-Wellesley is a member of Partners HealthCare System.

Jaff, 57, has been medical director of the vascular center at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for 12 years. He is also a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and a board member of Martha's Vineyard Hospital.

Larry Tracy has been named president of Memorial Hospital of South Bend (Ind.). He replaces Kreg Gruber, who was promoted to COO of Beacon Health System. Memorial is part of Beacon, also based in South Bend.

Tracy, 47, most recently served as president and CEO of Barnes-Jewish St. Peters (Mo.) Hospital. Earlier he was the hospital's COO. He previously was a business analyst for Ohio State University Health System, Columbus, and VP at Evanston (Ill.) Northwestern Healthcare.

Rose Ann Laureto has been named CIO of Gundersen Health System, La Crosse, Wis. She replaces Deb Rislow, who retired after nearly 25 years with Gundersen.

Laureto most recently was CIO at ProMedica Health System, based in Toledo, Ohio. She has been a healthcare CIO for nearly 20 years, including stints at Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit; Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
