Darcy Burthay has been promoted to president and CEO of Providence Health System in Washington, D.C., an Ascension Health subsidiary. The move is effective July 1. She replaces Duane Erwin, who has served as interim CEO since November 2015.
Burthay most recently served as managing director of Home Care Services for Ascension Health. Previously, she was chief nursing officer and COO at Ascension's St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital for nearly six years.
Hill
John G. Hill has been named president and CEO of the Bozeman (Mont.) Health system, effective Aug. 1.
Hill, 45, most recently served as senior VP and CEO of the PeaceHealth Oregon West Network, where he oversaw operations at four hospitals, including the flagship PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield. Before joining PeaceHealth, he spent five years as CEO of the Medical Center of Aurora and Centennial Medical Plaza near Denver.
Dr. David Williams has been named CEO of UnityPoint Health Partners, the accountable care organization of West Des Moines, Iowa-based UnityPoint Health. He replaces Kevin Vermeer, who assumed the role of president and CEO of UnityPoint Health in January.
Williams, 48, will continue to serve as senior VP of clinical integration and optimization at the system, a role he has held since June 2015. Previously, he was a pediatrician for UnityPoint Health and Iowa Health System for 15 years.
Ryu
Dr. Jaewon Ryu, 42, has been named executive VP and chief medical officer of Geisinger Health System, Danville, Pa., effective at the end of September. He replaces Dr. Albert Bothe, who has transitioned to the system's chief quality officer.
Ryu is president of Humana's integrated care delivery arm, where he manages the system's clinical practices. Previously he was CMO at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System in Chicago.
Bothe, 69, became chief quality officer in September 2015 after five years as executive VP and CMO. He joined Geisinger in 2006 from the University of Chicago, where he was associate dean and executive director of the faculty practice plan.
Dr. K. Craig Kent has been named dean of the College of Medicine at Ohio State University, effective Sept. 6. He replaces interim dean Dr. Christopher Ellison, who has been in the role since November 2014. The appointment is pending approval by the university board.
Kent most recently was chair of the surgery department at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. A funded researcher for more than 25 years, he has published more than 300 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has investigated vascular disease treatments.
Ellison will return to his roles as senior VP of health sciences, CEO of the faculty group practice and a professor of gastrointestinal surgery at the university.
