Kindred Healthcare has partnered with Palomar Health in Escondido, Calif., to open a 52-bed rehabilitation hospital.
The Louisville, Ky.-based health system will own a slight majority of the inpatient rehab center and manage the day-to-day operations, according to a news release.
Financial information on the deal was not disclosed.
The hospital, to be located near Palomar Health in Escondido, is expected to open in 2019.
Kindred currently manages Palomar Health's inpatient rehab center. Palomar Health is the largest health system in northern San Diego County, with three hospitals.
Kindred owns 19 inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and 618 home health and hospice service locations across the country. In 2014, Kindred bought Gentiva Health Services for $1.8 billion, creating one of the largest U.S. home health and hospice companies.
