Advances in lung and breast cancer screening, neonatal and scoliosis imaging, tissue management, perinatal heart rate monitoring, blood supply management and fascial closures will be showcased this week at a conference highlighting innovation.
Premier, the Charlotte, N.C.-based healthcare group purchasing and performance improvement company, will host its annual conference this week just outside of Washington, D.C.
The Breakthroughs Conference, which runs Tuesday through Friday, includes a trade show and awards ceremonies. Speakers include Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota; Dr. Patrick Conway, chief medical officer at the CMS; and retired Adm. Mike Mullen, now a professor at Princeton.
Premier expects more than 4,000 providers, suppliers and industry experts to attend the event. Last year's conference had 4,300 attendees.
The conference gives them the opportunity to see the “latest industry trends and learn replicable approaches to healthcare delivery improvement,” according to a statement from Premier. It will include sessions on alternative payment modeling, antibiotic resistance, care transitions, value-based care and supply-chain management.
In previous years, vendors have presented an implantable cardiac defibrillator, advanced mammography technology, a crib mattress to reduce pressure ulcers, and the smallest heart monitor for diagnosing irregular heartbeats.
