David Entwistle, 47, was named president and CEO of Stanford Health Care, the academic medical center in the Bay Area. His appointment is effective July 5.
Entwistle replaces Mariann Byerwalter, a position she held in an interim basis since January.
Entwistle joins Stanford Health after nearly a decade at the helm of the University of Utah Health Care, an academic medical center with four hospitals. He has also held executive leadership roles at UW Hospital and Clinics and City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, Calif.
The Palo Alto, Calif.-based provider announced in February that it will begin to offer insurance to two major high-tech employers next year through its provider plan, Stanford Health Care Alliance.
The system last year also acquired ValleyCare Health System, a single-hospital system in Pleasanton, Calif.
“At this transformative time in healthcare, Stanford continues to raise the bar,” Entwistle said in a news release. “I am thrilled to be joining a premier institution on the leading edge of discover, education and clinical care.”
